Christ's first coming was without external pomp or show of power, and yet there were a few who recognized and understood the blessing and significance of His arrival.

All the religious dignitaries of that time showed their false pretenses of holiness and complete ignorance of God's written word by rejecting Christ when He walked and taught among them. Christ's life and teachings as a meek and loving Savior exposed the wheat from the chaff in those times and few came out of the process victorious.

But now that we all know the Gospel of Christ and His victory over sin and death what will His second coming expose?  What unrepentant mocker and sinner can endure the thought of this second coming?

"But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked."  Isaiah 11:4

When in meekness Christ said to the Roman soldiers "I am He" they fell backward to the ground in the power and glory of His word. John 18:16.

His death on the cross shook the earth and darkened the heavens yet what will the terror of His enemies be when He returns as the King of Kings, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the triumphant Savior to summon the living and the dead before Him?

Oh that the terrors of the Lord and his wrath would persuade men to forsake their sins and "kiss the Son least He be angry!" Psalm 2:12.

None of His foes shall bear up before the tempest of His wrath or hide themselves from the fire of His condemnation; but His blood-washed people look for His second coming with joy and anticipation knowing that they are forgiven and sanctified. 

Let us search ourselves today and make our calling and election sure, so that the return of Christ may cause no eternal shame and judgement to oneself; but to be found by Him as humble and willing servants who cast away all pride, hypocrisy, and worldly vices; to be found as doers of "THE Word" and not hearers only. James 1:22.
