"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."
Matt 6:24
A man who loves the world or it's system, does not know the Word and commands of God; nor can any man willingly hate, defraud, or oppress others in anything, but he that does not love and follow the Word of God according to the scriptures.
This is the cause of all anxiety, problems and cares in this life; that ongoing strife between each other, that grief and vexation of spirit and complete lack of consideration for others with which we are subject on a daily basis; is surely from people that lack the knowledge of the Word and commands of God. For the Word and commands of God are a blessing to man who was created to thrive on living with a Godly structure. This Godly structure was meant for man's own good to mitigate the pitfalls and deceptions that are incident to this present life.
Why then are Christians much besotted with the things of this world? Why do they not entirely forget the constant striving for increased wealth and honor, lust and riches, that they may enjoy Christ and His Word more fully, whom they profess to love? This was in former times the constant practice of the holy servants of God; whom the exquisite sweetness of God's divine Word had so much overpowered, as to make them forget the whole world and it's temporal pleasures, and even themselves also. Hence they were accounted fools in the world by the children of men, when at the same time Christ calls them the wisest of all men.

Matt 7:24
As compared to the foolish children of men in the world:
"And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: and he thought within himself, saying, what shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, this will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."
Luke 7:16-21
"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away."
2 Tim 3:1-5
These worldly mockers of Christ's saints most deserve the name of fools and madmen, as they prefer a handful of frail and transient things, to everlasting and never-fading glory in the after-life with our God and Saviour. Those are the greatest fools, these children of ignorance, who lash the godly with names and cynical labels, who, setting their love on things earthly, have no concern to know Christ and the Word of eternal life contained in the scriptures.
A true follower of Christ, obeys his master as if there were nothing in the whole universe to love and serve but God alone. And for this reason, he finds his true created purpose as a child of God, which was planned at the beginning of the world. For God hath in himself all things essentially, whatever we can desire. He is true honor and joy; He is peace and pleasure; He is wealth and magnificence. With Him are light and life, glory and majesty, and all those delights that the heart of man can desire. All is found in a more substantial and transcendent manner in God and His Word, than it is in the world by man alone. As man is left alone to his own rule and devices he causes only greed, pride, suffering, strife, oppression, evil and death. If, therefore, you love that which is good, fix your love upon God and His Word, who is the eternal source of all goodness, the essential Good itself, and without whom there is no goodness at all.
"there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments."
Matt. 19:17
For whatever goodness a child of this world may seem to possess, it is but an inconsiderable drop derived out of the ocean of the infinite goodness of God that was originally meant for this world before the fall of man in the Garden of Eden.
To conclude; is it not far better to set your thoughts on God and His Word alone, the inexhaustible fountain and well-spring of all perfection and goodness? The less a thing has of earthly gravity in it, the lighter it is, and the more easily is it carried upwards to eternity. So it is with the soul; the more it cleaves to earthly things, and is pressed down by them to the ground, the less ability has it to raise itself to God, and rejoice in its Maker.
In a word, the less a man loves this world, the more will the Word of God through His Spirit prevail in the lives of the wise believer.
